## Stored chemical energy

Temporary recombiner failures allowed gas to accumulate before releasing chemical heat. Pressure records helped distinguish these events from a nuclear heat source.

## An apparent positive population in UHTP

A faulty temperature sensor in one cell accounted for 64% of readings at or above the 100 mW screening threshold. The 80-cell campaign found no significant excess heat.

## A hotter sample in deuterium

Optical temperature differences arose from gas absorption. Later thermocouple differences were reproduced with platinum controls and explained by hydrogen cooling more effectively than deuterium.

## An apparent melting-point difference

Re-engineering thermocouple feedthroughs corrected a cold-junction compensation error. The revised TI-11 measurements largely eliminated the apparent hydrogen/deuterium melting-point difference.

## Laser-induced holes and melt spots

Nonlinear optical effects in the pressure window distorted the illumination. Increasing the sample-to-window distance removed the effect and identified the features as direct laser damage.

## An apparent optical heat signal

Measuring through an adjacent gold layer showed that the apparent deuterium enhancement arose from different optical responses, not anomalous heat.

An early passive test at 100 ksi D₂ and 50 °C produced unexplained heat-flow spikes. Their cause was never definitively located, and the signal did not recur in subsequent tests; the team did not accept it as evidence of AHE.
